The man who drove a car through a crowd of Liverpool fans has finally been named.
Paul Doyle was arrested at the scene after his Ford Galaxy ploughed into supporters on Water Street shortly after Monday’s Premier League parade.
At least 79 people suffered injuries during the traumatic incident with 27 taken to hospital and two of the injured, including a child, reported to have serious injuries.
Merseyside Police confirmed on Thursday that the ages of those impacted by the crash at the heart of Liverpool city centre were between nine and 78 years old.
Doyle has now been charged with dangerous driving, causing grievous bodily harm with intent, wounding with intent to cause GBH and attempting to cause GBH with intent
The 53-year-old from Burghill Road in West Derby is scheduled to appear at the city’s Magistrates Court on Friday.
Assistant Chief Constable Jenny Sims said: “I fully understand how this incident has left us all shocked and saddened, and I know many will continue to have concerns and questions.
“Our detectives are working tirelessly, with diligence and professionalism, to seek the answers to all those questions. When we are able to, we will provide further information.
“Merseyside Police is determined to gather as much evidence as possible to ensure that every avenue is explored.
“Now that Paul Doyle has been charged, we ask that the judicial process be allowed to continue without any speculation online or elsewhere that could impede the pursuit of justice for all those affected.”
The Crown Prosecution Service confirmed that the charges against Doyle will be kept under review while the investigation into the incident progresses.
