Liverpool were dealt a blow in their pursuits of Bradley Barcola and Ibrahim Mbaye.
The Paris Saint-Germain pair are still high on the Anfield club’s list of priority targets as they seek to strengthen their attacking ranks before the transfer deadline.
A move for Barcola is expected to materialise in the final week of the summer window despite the European champions refusing to budge on their valuation.
Les Parisiens value the France international in the region of £130 million, which the Reds are reluctant to meet despite plans to make him their marquee signing.
But reports indicate that Andoni Iraola’s side attempted to broker a joint deal for Barcola and Mbaye in hopes of sealing two of their preferred signings in one.
According to L’Equipe, PSG refused to engage in negotiations for a package transfer due to a significant gap between the clubs’ respective valuations of Mbaye.
While Liverpool remain determined to land Barcola, the outcome saw them move onto Brighton’s Yankuba Minteh, who was the subject of successive bids last week.
Minteh is currently sidelined until the end of October after picking up a calf injury during a pre-season friendly with Roma which required corrective surgery.
The Seagulls are expected to hold out for a £70M valuation on the Gambian, who has contributed 19 goal involvements in 73 outings since joining from Newcastle.
