Woman arrested on Liverpool Airport return

A woman has been arrested at Liverpool John Lennon Airport over a serious crash.

The 34-year-old from Liverpool was detained by police officers at the Speke terminal after arriving on an inbound flight in the early hours of Friday (August 21).

She was wanted in connection with a collision between a pedestrian and a Range Rovers on Mariners Wharf in the city centre at around 11.40pm on August 11.

The victim, a 27-year-old man, was walking along the pavement with his partner at the time when the vehicle mounted the path, causing him serious injuries

He was taken to hospital but has since been discharged and is recovering at home. A woman who was driving the Range Rover ran away from the scene on foot.

The woman stopped at Liverpool Airport was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and failing to stop and report a collision.

She was taken to a police station, where she remains in custody and will be interviewed by detectives.

Detective Sergeant Kurt Timpson said: “This was a serious incident that has left a visitor to our city with significant injuries.

“Driving of this nature will not be tolerated on our streets, and we will do everything we can to prevent it and bring offenders before the courts.

“Although we have made a successful arrest this morning, I would ask anyone who witnessed the incident and has not yet spoken to police to contact my investigation team.

“I would also urge residents and businesses in the area to review any CCTV, dashcam or other footage which may have captured the incident or the movements of the black Range Rover before the collision occurred.”
