Deadline deals take Liverpool sales to £44m

Liverpool recouped £44 million in player sales thanks to two deadline day deals.

Ryan Kent secured a permanent return to Rangers in a move worth £7m to the European champions following a successful loan spell with Steven Gerrard’s side.

Kent won the PFA Scotland’s Young Player of the Year during the previous campaign spent at Ibrox, where he recorded six goals and four assists.

Club Brugge had also expressed an interest in the winger but were unable to reach a deal with the Reds, allowing Rangers to win the race for his signature.

His departure from Anfield was one of two to take place ahead of Monday’s European transfer deadline, with Bobby Duncan also joining Fiorentina.

Duncan had been the subject of a war of words instigated by his agent Saif Rubie which accused the Liverpool hierarchy of ‘mentally bullying’ the teenage striker.

It was claimed that the 18-year-old, a cousin of Gerrard, had offers from both Fiorentina and Nordsjaelland that were rejected by his current employers.

However the bitter stand-off over Duncan’s future prompted the Serie A side to return with an improved bid of £1.8m to sign him on the deadline day.
