Man dies after punching bag machine trauma

A shopkeeper who had a punching bag machine land on him has died.

Police were called to a row of shops on Berkley Street in Toxteth shortly after 7pm last Thursday (October 29) following reports of a disturbance at a parade of shops.

Abodo Ali was a bystander in the incident but suffered a serious head injury after a punch bag machine was tipped over and landed on him.

Sadly, the 52-year-old died as a result of his injuries in hospital just days later.

Mr Ali’s family have paid tribute to the beloved father-of-five as ‘more than just a shopkeeper’ in his role as the owner of the Shop and Save Mini Market.

“‘Abdo Ali, known to so many simply as ‘Ali’, was a loving father to five children, a friend to many and a man with a heart of gold,” read a family statement.

“As the much-loved owner of Shop and Save Mini Market, he was more than just a shopkeeper; he was a familiar face, a friend and a source of laughter to so many in the community.

“His kindness, generosity and charitable nature touched countless lives, always willing to help anyone in need.

“He leaves behind an enduring mark on everyone who knew him, and his warmth, laughter and big heart will never be forgotten.

“A truly special man who was loved by many and will be missed by even more.”
