Liverpool fined over Roma semi-final trouble

Liverpool have been fined over crowd trouble at their Champions League semi-final against Roma.

April’s meeting between the sides at Anfield was overshadowed by an attack by Italian hooligans which left Reds fan Sean Cox in a critical condition.

Roma were hit with a €50,000 (£44,400) sanction and banned from selling tickets for their next two European away games for their role in the incidents.

But UEFA issued a fine of £7,105 to Liverpool on Wednesday over the semi-final first leg tie, which the hosts won 5-2 before progressing to the final.

The football governing body’s control, ethics and disciplinary body found the club guilty of crowd disturbances, throwing objects and setting off fireworks.
