Lallana sidelined for Liverpool FC clash with Southampton

Adam Lallana will be sidelined for Liverpool’s weekend trip to Southampton after suffering a fresh injury with England.

Lallana is set to miss the reunion with his former club after aggravating a groin problem which forced him out of his country’s 2-2 friendly draw with Spain on Tuesday night.

The winger, who opened the scoring at Wembley, originally suffered the injury during the Reds’ 2-1 win over Swansea City last month that required a 12-day recovery period.

He missed England’s World Cup qualifiers with Slovenia and Malta as a result, but a repeat of that lay-off is unlikely after scans revealed that his latest injury is not as serious.

Liverpool expect Lallana to return to training next week, with Georginio Wijnaldum likely to take his place for the encounter at St Mary’s.
