The going is Good for the opening day of the 2017 Grand National.
Thousands of race goers are heading to Aintree racecourse on Thursday as the world’s most famous steeplechase festival gets underway.
With temperatures set to reach double figures during the three-day event, a dry overnight has seen course clerk Andrew Tulloch declare a going of Good and Good to Soft.
He said: “I have left the going as Good, Good to Soft in places on the Mildmay and Hurdle Courses. The Grand National Course is Good to Soft, Good in places.
“The weather is going to get warmer through the meeting, with the Saturday forecast for 15 degrees Celsius, and we will treat each day as it comes.
“We watered around fences 13 and 14 of the Grand National Course (in the home straight) overnight.
“We will continue to water in order to maintain the going on the easy side of good.”
Only one non-runner has been declared for the afternoon’s racecard, with Astre De La Cour ruled out of the Betway Red Rum Handicap Chase at 4.40pm with Colic.
