Tony Bellew beats David Haye with 11th Round win

Tony Bellew won a stunning clash with David Haye at the O2 Arena on Saturday evening.

The Liverpool boxer produced one of the biggest upsets in recent boxing history to knock out the former heavyweight champion in the 11th round.

Early exchanges saw the two boxers trading big blows, with both seeking an early round victory in the highly anticipated clash.

The sixth round would be the one in which the fight would spark to life, with a slip from Haye seeing him pick up an injury and visibly struggle to move from there on in.

That encouraged Bellew to go for the victory as he managed to land several big hits on his opponent in the same round, with Haye ending up on his knees on three separate occasions.

The Evertonian would tire in the latter rounds as he struggled with the extra weight while Haye bravely fought on despite the injury.

Nonetheless, the win would be Bellew’s as he managed to knock Haye out of the ring in the 11th round and secure his victory.

“First of all I just want to thank all of you people in here and all of you watching on TV,” he told Sky Sports.

“All of you made it possible for me. All that mattered tonight is that I just secured my kids future.David, I thank you from the bottom of my heart.

“You could have picked a lot of different guys but he picked me. It was genuine, I wanted to really beat him more than anything in this world and he wanted to beat me. I think we showed that tonight.

“I have so much respect for him as a fighter. He will come again and he can come again.”

“Tony was a great fighter, that’s what went wrong,” added Haye.

“I trained great, I felt good coming into the fight. I wanted to do a demolition job. This guy has a heart of a lion, I’ve knocked out people a lot bigger, a lot stronger. I did not expect him to have the chin and durability that he has.

“I gave it my best shot, my best wasn’t good enough tonight. I have to take my hat off to Tony Bellew, he was by far the better fighter tonight. I would love to do it again. If the fans want to see it again, I’d love to do it again. It felt like a Rocky film in there.”
