Jaguar Land Rover give cyber attack update

Jaguar Land Rover’s Merseyside staff are no closer to a return to work.

The car manufacturer’s production plant in Halewood has been shut down since last Monday following a cyber attack which affected the company’s global operations.

Despite owners Tata Motors taking ‘immediate action’ to limit the potential damage of the hacking, the fallout from the incident has continued into a second week.

Workers at JLR Halewood were initially told to not to come into work until at least Tuesday but that has been pushed back to the end of this week at the earliest.

In an update on Wednesday, the company confirmed that it is working to resolve the issue which it believes has seen some of its data compromised by the attack.

A spokesperson said: “Since we became aware of the cyber incident, we have been working around the clock, alongside third-party cybersecurity specialists, to restart our global applications in a controlled and safe manner.

“As a result of our ongoing investigation, we now believe that some data has been affected and we are informing the relevant regulators.

“Our forensic investigation continues at pace and we will contact anyone as appropriate if we find that their data has been impacted.

“We are very sorry for the continued disruption this incident is causing and we will continue to update as the investigation progresses.”
