A man has died after a his car hit a tree in Woolton.
Emergency services were called shortly after 9.15am on Saturday (August 1) following reports a red Skoda Fabia had collided with a tree on Woolton Road.
The driver, a man in his 70s, was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. His next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers.
A section of Woolton Road near Allerton Towers has been temporarily closed to allow for ongoing investigative work. Motorists are advised to avoid the area where possible.
Sergeant James Hannon said: “Our thoughts are with the man’s family at this incredibly difficult time.
“For their sake we are very keen to understand exactly what happened, and I appeal to anyone who was travelling in the area at the time to check their dashcam footage for anything that may assist our enquiries, including footage of the collision itself or the moments leading up to it.
“Front and rear dashcams often capture vital evidence even if the driver didn’t see anything at the time, so please check yours if you were driving on Woolton Road at about 9.15am on Saturday.
“No matter how insignificant your information or footage may seem, it could prove vital to our investigation.”
