Jaguar Land Rover’s Merseyside factory has been shut down over a cyber attack.
Workers at the Halewood operations were sent home or ordered not to come into the plant following communication from management early on Monday morning.
JLR confirmed to employees that the incident extended into Tuesday in what owners Tata Motors have attributed to a ‘global IT system issue’ affecting its two UK plants.
The company confirmed in emails to employees that it took ‘immediate action’ to limit the impact of the hacking by shutting down their production systems.
It is not yet known who was behind the incident but comes after several leading UK businesses including Marks & Spencer and the Co-op were targeted recently.
The National Crime Agency said: “We are aware of an incident impacting Jaguar Land Rover and are working with partners to better understand its impact.”
