Gomez makes Liverpool FC comeback behind closed doors

Joe Gomez made his long-awaited Liverpool comeback in a behind-closed-doors friendly.

Gomez has not featured for the Reds since October last year after suffering a cruciate knee ligament injury while playing for England under-21.

But the defender finally returned to action as Jurgen Klopp’s side ran out 5-0 winners over Accrington Stanley on Sunday afternoon at Melwood.

Liverpool fielded a strong side with first-team mainstays Loris Karius, Emre Can, Joel Matip and James Milner among the hosts’ starting line-up.

Gomez completed a 45-minute run-out with the 19-year-old appearing to show no adverse reaction to the second half outing.

“It is a long way,” said Klopp.

“He was injured for a long time and now it is a long way back, so there is no rush in it.

“We can give him time to come back in the right moment.”

Youngster Rhian Brewser struck a hat-trick against the League Two side while Can and under-23 winger Harry Wilson scored a goal apiece.
