Liverpool fans have demanded that the club end its sponsorship with New Balance following their endorsement of Donald Trump.
Matt LeBretton, the Boston-based firm’s vice-president of Public Affairs, publicly congratulated the new President-elect on his surprise victory.
But the support of Trump has drawn an angry response from across the world, with numerous people burning their New Balance trainers in protest.
Supporters of the Anfield club, whose kits have been manufactured by the sportswear giant since the 2015/16 season, have joined the public backlash.
Alice Beggs said: “New Balance are supporting Trump. Liverpool need a new sponsor.”
Nii Sowa-Doku said: “New Balance just had to support Trump. Now I can’t wear my LFC kit with pride.”
Jay Kennedy sent a tweet directly to the club’s official Twitter account, saying “What do you think legions of Scouse supporters will think about main sponsors New Balance support for President Elect??”
Liverpool fan Nasiru Rashid said: “Hope we review our relationship with kit sponsor NewB alance after their support for Trump.”
Damian Foley said: “I’m not going to buy a single piece of LFC merchandise until the New Balance deal is over.”
