Liverpool FC flop ‘badly coached’ during Anfield career

Ryan Babel has claimed he was ‘badly coached’ during his time at Liverpool.

Babel joined the Reds in 2007 for a deal worth £14 million but lurched between spells of inconsistency during his three-and-a-half year stay.

He went on to enjoy spells with Hoffenheim, former club Ajax, Kasımpasa and Al Ain before joining La Liga outfit Deportivo La Coruna this summer.

The former Holland international, 29, has previously made no secret of his disillusion with former Reds manager Rafael Benitez’s methods.

And in an interview with Spanish newspaper AS, Babel has aimed another barbed attack about his failed stint at Anfield under the Spaniard’s tutelage.

He said: “I think I was badly coached (at Liverpool).

“Neither the coach nor the coaching staff advised me well. I was 20 years old went I went to the Premier League.

“When you are 20, you need help from other people, you need people to talk to you. But when I went over there, nobody helped me.

“I was alone, and that’s difficult for any young player.”
