Jurgen Klopp responsible for Liverpool FC’s goal net change

Liverpool’s decision to change the colour of Anfield’s goal nets was orchestrated by Jurgen Klopp’s desire to improve shooting accuracy.

White netting returned to the stadium, following a four-year absence, as the Reds ran out comfortable 4-1 winners over Leicester City last weekend.

It had been speculated that testing of goal-line technology Hawkeye was behind the change in colour but Liverpool have confirmed the reason for the change.

Red nets were restored in 2012 during Brendan Rodgers’ tenure but ground staff restored the white ones at Klopp’s request prior to the Premier League champions’ visit.

According to the club’s official website, the Liverpool manager felt that the existing netting blended in far too much with a predominantly red-wearing home crowd.

The decision was made after players trained at Anfield last Thursday in efforts to familiarise themselves with playing in front of the newly rebuilt Main Stand.

Klopp’s decision to revert to the white netting mirrors that of former Kop boss Roy Evans, who instigated the original change in the 1995-96 season.
