Jurgen Klopp has asked Liverpool fans to stop singing his name during matches.
The Anfield crowd serenaded the Reds manager during their side’s emphatic 4-1 win over Leicester City on the opening night of the new Main Stand.
But Klopp urged supporters to refrain from celebratory chants after their latest coincided just moments before Foxes striker Jamie Vardy tested Simon Mignolet.
He said: “We need to have atmospheres like this, not only against the champions and score four goals.
“That’s what we have to do in this season – to create our own atmosphere, for us and nobody else.
“When I speak about this I [also] have to say, please don’t sing my name before the game is decided.
“Immediately when the Kop started singing ‘Jurgen Klopp, la la la’, they were clear on Simon Mignolet. It’s a little bit like celebrating a penalty before we’ve scored.
“I don’t play! It’s nice, I like all the players but please don’t sign my name before the game is decided.
“It was the same at Arsenal; it’s nice but not necessary. It would be really nice if we could stop this.”
“I wanted to say this, because (at the time) nobody could understand me. I know it doesn’t sound too smart, but sorry – that’s me.
“It’s very nice, thank you very much. But I’ve heard it often now!”
