Liverpool could be heading back into the transfer market as Jurgen Klopp looks to stem the tide of injuries.
Alberto Moreno became the latest casualty of the Reds’ pre-season campaign, joining Mamadou Sakho, Joe Gomez and Lucas Leiva on the sidelines.
Although the left-back’s lay-off with a dead leg in last weekend’s friendly defeat to Roma will be temporary, Liverpool’s options are largely underweight.
And Klopp has hinted that he may once again delve into the summer window before it closes on August 31 despite previous suggestions to the contrary.
He said: “Is the activity all over? I have no idea. I don’t think so. We will see what happens.
“If the Roma game was our base then we have to change everything but it isn’t. Was the Milan game more our base? Maybe, but Roma? No.
“Gomez, Sakho and Lucas are all injured so of course we haven’t got enough centre-backs at the moment. But we have to handle situations.
“There have been too many games with not enough centre-backs. We can’t sign someone just for a few weeks. In other positions we do have cover.”
