Jurgen Klopp hails Liverpool FC’s emergency striker

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has saluted Shamal George after he deputised as a striker during Wednesday’s win over Huddersfield.

George broke out of his comfort zone as a goalkeeper to lead the line after injury to Lucas Leiva threatened to leave the Reds playing with 10 men.

Klopp turned to the Wirral-born stopper, 18, for the final 23 minutes of the friendly at the John Smith’s Stadium after using all of his outfield substitutes.

He said: “I was watching the game and organising the system with 10.

“Then they came and said ‘Come on, we have Shamal’ so we changed it.

“We played a strange formation with Shamal as a striker but he did wonderfully!”
