Dominik Szoboszlai admits his long-term Liverpool future is out of his hands.

Negotiations have taken place about extending the Hungary international’s stay beyond his contract expiring at the end of the 2027/28 campaign.

Szoboszlai revealed last month that those talks had yet to reach a successful conclusion despite admitting to being happy and settled with Arne Slot’s side.

But the 25-year-old, who remains a key figure for Arne Slot’s side this season, has now conceded that he is not in control of any decision to extend his stay.

Asked if there was any update on a new deal, he replied: “Nothing yet, to be honest.. From now on… it is not in my hands.

“It works this way. There is no progression but if the right offer comes [from the club] then let’s see.

“I’m completely relaxed about my situation. Right now as I said I am doing my job on the pitch, we will see in the future.

“Let’s see what happens, hopefully everyone will be happy at the end. It is not on me. I would love to [extend]. We will see.

“I like the city, I like the club, I like playing with these guys, I love Anfield, I love the fans.

“Let’s see what the future holds.”

Owing to injuries, Szoboszlai was utilised as a right-back as Liverpool sealed their first Premier League win of 2026 against Newcastle on Saturday night.

But the midfielder insists that he does not see a future in the position despite former teammate Trent Alexander-Arnold

“As I’ve said before I’m a midfielder,” added Szoboszlai.

“Hopefully our right-back is going to come back from injury and I can get back in the middle.

“If the team needs me or the coach needs me there I will play and try to give my best.

“But now Wata [Endo] is ready to play, also Curtis [Jones] is ready to play there, so we have quite a few options now.

“I think the midfielder [role] is more me than the right-back. I am close to the goal and I can be more dangerous.

“I feel from the right position I am far from the goal but I am doing everything for the team so we don’t concede.

“That’s the most important thing when you play defence, and also help up front with crosses and long balls, whatever the team needs.”
