Jurgen Klopp has responded to scrutiny of Florian Wirtz’s start to life at Liverpool.
Wirtz’s Anfield career is yet to ignite following a summer move from Bayer Leverkusen which could reach up to £116 million if he meets future clauses.
The Germany international has failed to record a goal or assist from his opening nine appearances for the reigning Premier League champions in all competitions.
But former Reds manager Klopp believes the criticisms about Wirtz’s early form are becoming overblown and remains confident that the playmaker will come good.
“I don’t have to worry about Florian Wirtz because his quality is so outstanding,” he told RTL and n-tv.
“Of course, everything is fine, and everyone knows that. The discussion is certainly being blown out of proportion.
“Liverpool have just lost three games in a row – it’s unusual for something like that to happen after such a long time. But it’s also normal in life. That’s why these things are discussed.
“I’ve been in the middle of such discussions long enough now, and I can tell you: nothing could interest people less than the public discussions that are taking place there.
“So it doesn’t matter, and everything will be fine.”
He added: “I don’t have to worry about Florian because the quality is so outstanding, he’s a talent of the century.
“At some point, he’ll show that again in every game as he did at Leverkusen. He has a stable environment, the club is great in such moments.”
