Liverpool FC set to tie down Jurgen Klopp with new contract

Liverpool have opened talks with Jurgen Klopp in efforts to tie him to the club until 2020.

Klopp signed a three-year deal when he succeeded Brendan Rodgers last October which is set to expire in 2018 but Reds officials are keen to extend that by a further two years.

Fenway Sports Group’s decision comes on the back of a whirlwind seven months in which Liverpool reached the finals of the League Cup and the Europa League.

The club’s American owners are keen for Klopp to continue overseeing Anfield’s current trajectory and are mindful that his work has not gone unnoticed by other European clubs.

It is hoped that an extension to the 49-year-old’s contract would ward off any potential suitors and end future speculation about his long-term plans.
