Liverpool’s first game without Jota set for TV

Liverpool’s first game since the death of Diogo Jota will be televised.

The Premier League champions are due to kick off pre-season campaign with a friendly against Preston on July 13 agreed prior to Jota’s untimely passing.

Jota and his brother Andre Silva were killed when their Lamborghini crashed on the A-52 motorway in Zamora, Spain due to a tyre blowout.

A final decision on whether the Reds will fulfil the Deepdale fixture is yet to be taken with players and staff set to be consulted over if it will still go ahead.

Arne Slot’s side will begin their new season preparations on Tuesday after postponing last Friday’s start following the Portugal international’s death.

Should the club proceed with their opening friendly against the Championship outfit, ITV 1 are confirmed to broadcast the game live to a UK audience.

The move, which will see ex-Liverpool defender Stephen Warnock provide co-commentary, is believed to have been agreed prior to last week’s tragic news.

Summer signings Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong and Milos Kerkez could make their unofficial debuts against Paul Heckingbottom’s Lilywhites.

Goalkeeper Freddie Woodman is also set to return to his former club just a matter of weeks after leaving when his contract expired at the end of June.

Meanwhile Liverpool’s in-house TV channel will resume service on Monday following a three-day hiatus out of respect for Jota and his brother.

A one-hour tribute to the club’s number 20 is set to air from Anfield at 6pm which will be followed by all of the forward’s 65 goals for the club.
