Liverpool FC insist Anfield will be ready for Premier League start

Liverpool are confident their Main Stand renovations will be complete in time to host their first home game of the Premier League season.

Newly-promoted Burnley are set to visit Anfield on August 20 but contingency plans have been put in place to switch the fixture to Turf Moor in the event that final building work on the stadium is not completed.

It would mean the Reds would have to play the first two games of the new campaign on their travels.

However Press Association Sport claim that Liverpool aim to be ready to host the match on the second weekend of the season.

Club officials are not currently ruling out the option of asking for a switch to the Clarets’ stadium in the event of requiring additional time for completion, however it is likely that Anfield will be ready to host the game.

Contrary to reports, there has yet to be contact with Burnley about the possibility of reversing the fixture to an away game for Jurgen Klopp’s side.
