Liverpool’s summer move for Mario Gotze could be revived after Bayern CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge indicated his surprise at the player’s apparent decision to remain with the Bundesliga outfit.
The 23-year-old World Cup winner had been expected to leave the Bavarian giants for either Liverpool or former club Borussia Dortmund at the end of the season after falling out of favour with former manager Pep Guardiola.
But after switching agents on Monday- Gotze is now represented by Munich-based Prof. Dr. Peter Duvinage- the gifted attacking midfielder appeared to commit his future to German champions.
Rummenigge, however, believes the former Dortmund star’s future lies elsewhere, with the Bayern supremo admitting that he’d expected the player to leave the club during the close season.
“We made everything clear to Mario,” he told Kicker.
“He knows what the club thinks and he knows what the future coach thinks.”
“Mario has to consider for himself whether he wants to constantly get minutes.”
“I talked to him, also Ancelotti. Mario knows Bayern’s thoughts.
“Maybe he just wants to go into the European Championships without any speculation.”
