Liverpool poach second Man City staff member

A second Manchester City physio is set to join Liverpool’s backroom staff.

Jurgen Klopp’s side have undertaken a staff shake-up with the upcoming departures of Andy Massey and Richie Partridge both soon to depart.

Ex-Reds midfielder Partridge will join the Qatar national team’s coaching staff after almost four years serving as a physio to his old club’s first-team.

Massey, meanwhile, has been Liverpool’s Head of Medical Services since 2015, and is due to take up a similiar post in FIFA’s medical department.

According to Training Ground Guru, the pair’s exits from Anfield will see a series of changes to the Premier League leaders’ medical setup.

Chief among them will be the arrival of Steven Lilley from City to work alongside head physio Lee Nobes, who left the Etihad Stadium in 2018.

Lilley has spent almost a decade with City, having moved from Norwich City in 2011 and was promoted to first-team duties just two years into the role.

Gary O’Driscoll will also join from Arsenal as Massey’s successor. He previously served as lead doctor for the British and Irish Lions’ rugby union team.

The final departure at Liverpool will be first-team physio Christopher Rohrbeck, who joined in summer 2017 from Klopp’s former employers Mainz.

QPR Academy doctor Sean Carmody is also set to move to Merseyside on a one-year contract as part of his PhD with the University of Ghent.
