Liverpool poach key member of Pep Guardiola’s staff

Liverpool have raided Manchester City for their senior physio Lee Nobes.

Pep Guardiola’s side remain two points clear of the Reds in the Premier League table but have now lost a key backroom staff member to their title rivals.

As revealed by Training Ground Guru, Nobes will replace Matt Konopinski, who stood down as head of physiotherapy last month to take up a new role with the Football Association.

The Jersey-born physio spent 11 years at the Etihad Stadium, working under five different managers and played a part in three of City’s title-winning campaigns.

He featured prominently in Amazon’s ‘All or Nothing’ documentary on City’s record-breaking 2017/18 campaign, regularly seen accompanying players to visit specialist surgeon Dr Ramon Cugat in Barcelona.

Nobes served his final game with the reigning Premier League champions in last weekend’s comfortable 3-1 derby win over local rivals Manchester United.

He is set to begin work his role at Anfield on November 26, when he will work alongside Liverpool’s medical staff that includes fitness chief Andreas Kornyamer.

Konopinski’s role in the first-team setup has been temporarily filled by academy physio Paul Squires.
