Jurgen Klopp believes Liverpool are well-positioned to yield future success from their current foundations.
Klopp is now seven months into his Anfield helm and has made a promising start, leading the Reds to both the League Cup and Europa League finals and staging a late charge for a European place in the Premier League.
As Liverpool prepare to face last season’s champions Chelsea at Anfield tomorrow night, much of the build up is centered on whether the two giants will be able to usurp the likes of Leicester City and Tottenham next season.
And while Klopp insists that he has no idea whether his side will be able to mount a sustained assault on next year’s title, he claims Liverpool are showing tangible signs of progress in the formative months of his tenure.
He said: “I’m not too interested in when Chelsea can next win the title, and I have no idea when we can.
“But I promise we will try everything to build on the base of this season.
“We can get sixth position. It isn’t the biggest success in the history of Liverpool, but everyone interested in Liverpool can see the good signs and we will build on it.
“We have to improve and I am sure we will. A lot of things need to be perfect for a really good season.
“I’m really looking forward to next season, to pre-season, but this season we are still looking for what we can get.”
