Klopp hails ‘incredible’ Adrian in Super Cup win

Jurgen Klopp has hailed Adrian’s role in Liverpool’s Super Cup win as ‘incredible’.

Adrian was forced to step into the breach just four days after joining the Reds due to a calf injury sustained by Alisson during last week’s win over Norwich.

The Spaniard made his first full start for the European champions in Wednesday’s all-English clash with Chelsea and made a decisive save in the penalty shoot-out.

But Klopp admits that Adrian’s performance in Istanbul took even him by surprise given how short-lived his acclimatisation to life at Anfield had been.

He said: “I don’t know where Adrian was two weeks ago when we played Man City.

“When I spoke to him the first time he told me, ‘Yes, I have a goalie coach’ and stuff like this, but it was clear he would need time to get fit.

“But we didn’t have that time and he has to be fit now. And he was fit, he played an incredible game.

“He made some sensational saves – both goalies did that. But maybe for Adrian it was a bit more surprising because without any preparation pretty much.

“I don’t know when he played his last game for West Ham to be honest, so it was a while ago. Being ready like he was tonight is incredible.

“And he’s not only a great person on the pitch, he’s shown me already that he’s a proper personality in the dressing room as well.

“He was maybe louder than I was at half-time!”
