Roma in £15m talks for Liverpool defender

Roma have opened talks with Liverpool over the signing of Dejan Lovren.

Lovren previously attracted interest from fellow Serie A giants AC Milan earlier this summer but the Reds’ £25 million valuation proved to be a deterrent.

However the Croatia international could still be set to leave Merseyside for the Italian capital before the European transfer window closes on August 31.

Officials from the Rome-based club are in negotiations on a proposed transfer which would see Liverpool recoup £15m from their original £20m outlay.

The former Southampton defender previously had no plans to move but accepts he now represents a fourth-choice option for Jurgen Klopp’s side this season.

Lovren made just 18 appearances in all competitions for Liverpool last term with Joel Matip and Joe Gomez both preferred as Virgil van Dijk’s defensive partners.

Anfield chiefs are understood to have no concerns about potentially offloading the 30-year-old to a continental counterpart before the end of the month.
