Liverpool FC stopper dealt Europa League final injury blow

Liverpool goalkeeper Danny Ward will miss next week’s Europa League final after being sidelined for the rest of this season with a knee injury.

Ward was ruled out of Sunday’s win over Watford, after sustaining the injury in training, and he will now miss the Reds final Premier League games against Chelsea and West Brom, as well as the May 18 clash with Sevilla.

The 22-year-old was was expected to appear in Liverpool’s remaining two domestic games, as manager Jurgen Klopp seeks to rest Simon Mignolet ahead of the final in Basel.

However his place in the squad is now likely to be taken by Adam Bogdan, who has not featured since January.

Ward is expected to be fit to travel with Wales to Euro 2016 and was one of three Anfield players to be named in today’s provisional squad, alongside Joe Allen and Jordan Williams.
