Simon Mignolet believes playing Tottenham in the Champions League final is an advantage for Liverpool.
Liverpool take on the Londoners in Saturday’s showpiece at Madrid’s Estadio Metropolitano as they bid to become European champions for a sixth time.
In the Premier League, Jurgen Klopp’s side had the better of the Lilywhites this season as they recorded narrow 2-1 wins both at home and on the road.
Mignolet has first-hand experience of Spurs with compatriots Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld both regulars alongside him for the Belgium national team.
And the Reds’ second-choice goalkeeper feels that the familiarity of facing the Londoners will stand his own team in good stead in the Spanish capital.
“We know how good Tottenham is as a side,” Mignolet told Click LIverpool.
“We’ve got two players who play with us in the national team [for Belgium]. The England boys know a lot of players [too].
“That’s the advantage of playing a Premier League team.
“We know what we are going to face and it’s going to be difficult, especially in a final where anything can happen because you can be the favourite.
“But even in a final nobody is the favourite. I think 90 minutes of football at such a big stage can do different kinds of things, so we’re not looking at that.
“We just need to stay calm, do our jobs and focus on the job in hand, which we will.”
