Liverpool to hold talks over midfielder deal

Liverpool will hold talks with Hertha Berlin over a new deal for Marko Grujic.

Grujic has spent the current campaign on loan with the Bundesliga side, contributing five goals and one assist from 22 appearances in all competitions.

The Serbia international was Jurgen Klopp’s first signing as Reds manager but could now be set for an extended stay with the Berlin-based outfit.

Hertha’s sporting director Michael Preetz revealed he is preparing to contact Klopp about Grujic following the conclusion of the Premier League campaign.

“After the champion fight in England is over, I’ll now call Jurgen Klopp”, he told Bild.

Grijic is highly regarded by the club’s manager Pal Dardai, who hailed him as ‘by far the best midfielder’ he has seen in 22 years at the Olympiastadion.

However Hertha are set to face stern competition from Frankfurt, where Grujic’s agent already represents four first-team players, to retain his services.

Liverpool previously sent the 23-year-old out on loan to Cardiff City, where he was instrumental in helping them seal a short-lived return to the Premier League.
