Liverpool winger confirms summer exit

Bobby Adekanye has confirmed that he will leave Liverpool this summer.

The winger moved to Anfield from the youth ranks at Barcelona in 2015 after spending the previous campaign on loan with PSV Eindhoven.

But Adekanye’s time with the Reds is set to come to an end this season despite being a regular fixture in both the club’s under-19 and u23 sides.

A new three-year contract was tabled to the 20-year-old but he has revealed that he is preparing to pursue a career away from Merseyside in two months’ time.

Speaking to Voetbalzone, the Nigeria-born player admitted that his omission from Liverpool’s pre-season tour of the United States was a factor in his decision.

He said: “That didn’t happen in the end. That is disappointing and it has contributed to the fact that I do not want to renew my contract.

“If they promise such things and it doesn’t happen, I don’t know what will happen if I sign for three years.

“That confidence is no longer there, even though I still greatly respect the club. They don’t just extend for three years, so maybe there was a schedule behind it.

“But I no longer have faith in that. In terms of money, things are fine, but you have nothing if there is no perspective behind it. Money will come later.

“I now need playing minutes.”
