Klopp: Liverpool should ‘enjoy the ride’ of title bid

Jurgen Klopp has told Liverpool to ‘enjoy the ride’ of their current title challenge.

A four-point lead separates the Reds from closest challengers Manchester City in the Premier League table ahead of their Boxing Day visit of Newcastle United.

History does not appear to be on Liverpool’s side as the only team in the past decade to finish top of the table at Christmas and not ultimately win the title.

But Klopp insists that the statistic is irrelevant and the pursuit of Anfield’s first domestic crown since 1990 should be embraced rather than feared.

He said: “It’s not that we want to make ourselves smaller than we are but I can feel it.

“Nobody here is used to the success of Liverpool. But a lot of you feel for that club.

“After the game (at Wolves) somebody asked if it is ours to lose. That’s really crazy! If you want to have guarantees, go for another sport.

“If you want to be sure that in May it will be something special but you don’t want to see the way to that day, make a holiday. I don’t where the Premier League is not broadcast but maybe find a little country somewhere.

“If you want to enjoy the ride, to try everything you can, to be as successful as possible, welcome.

“Let’s go for it – that’s all we can do, nothing else – and not because our grandfathers did or didn’t do it. That has no influence.”
