Van Dijk: Liverpool won’t get carried away in title race

Virgl van Dijk insists Liverpool will not get carried away in the Premier League title race.

Sunday’s win over Manchester United allowed Jurgen Klopp’s side to consolidate a one-point advantage over reigning champions Manchester City at the summit.

The Reds continue to enjoy their best-ever start to a domestic campaign this season after extending their unbeaten run in the league to 17 games.

But Van Dijk is wary of allowing complacency to creep in ahead of the festive period.

He said: “We are in mid-December and the season is still too long.

“We are very happy we’re in the position that we’re in now but that can change in two or three weeks so we won’t get carried away.

“So we’ll try to keep on doing what we’re doing. Obviously, stay confident.”

Friday’s trip to Wolves will see Liverpool face a formidable challenge with the Premier League newcomers on their own three-game winning streak.

“It’s another game we want to win. It’s going to be very tough there,” admitted Van Dijk.

“They are in a great moment but so are we so we will have to prepare well and know their strengths and their weaknesses as well.”
