Jose Mourinho has warned Jurgen Klopp that his Liverpool reign will be judged on trophies.
Mourinho will face off against the Reds for the 28th time in his career when Manchester United aim to dent their hosts’ Premier League lead on Sunday.
Klopp’s side currently sit a point clear of reigning champions and closest challengers Manchester City heading into the clash with their arch rivals.
But Mourinho insists that the Liverpool manager must back up his tenure with silverware after losing three successive cup finals since taking over in 2015.
He said: “I think trophies matter, yeah. I think it matters especially when you have the potential to fight for trophies and when you clearly say the objective is to win the trophies.
“I think sometimes just to say it is not very intelligent. But when you have the potential you have nothing to hide.
“You know from day one that your desire has a relationship to your potential. Everybody can say that they want to win.
“The other thing is to say it in a cautious way in relation to the potential that you have.
“I don’t read much but I think they [Liverpool] have said that their objective is to win the Premier League.”
