Simon Mignolet will start for Liverpool in their Carabao Cup clash with Chelsea.
Mignolet last made a competitive appearance for the Reds over eight months ago in an FA Cup fourth round defeat to West Brom at the end of January.
The Belgian international, 30, has found himself marginalised behind Loris Karius and latterly Alisson Becker as Jurgen Klopp’s first-choice goalkeeper.
His frustrations were tempered by Liverpool’s refusal to allow him to pursue first-team football elsewhere during the summer despite receiving several offers.
But the Liverpool manager confirmed that Mignolet is set for a recall as his side prepare to welcome the Londoners to Anfield for Wednesday’s third round clash.
“The only position I will confirm that we will be changing is Simon will start,” said Klopp.
“The transfer window time is one of two moments in the year when you can make decisions about going somewhere or bringing players in.
“Yes, Simon would have been ready to go to another club to be the number-one wherever in the world but we couldn’t do it.
“Since then, he’s brilliant. He trains fantastic and he deserves that game, absolutely, tomorrow. I’m really happy to give him that opportunity.”
Liverpool could also hand Dejan Lovren his first start of the season against Maurizio Sarri’s side after the defender overcame a stomach complaint.
Klopp added: “Dejan looks quite good, trained completely normal now four times.
“He had a very intense period before that with the fitness guys of around 10 days. He looks ready.”
