Robertson installed as new Scotland captain

Liverpool defender Andy Robertson has been named Scotland captain.

Robertson was installed as his national’s side new leader on the back of an impressive 12 months at Anfield in which he rose to prominence at left-back.

The Scottish Football Association confirmed the decision to hand the armband to the 24-year-old ahead of their double header with Belgium and Albania.

Roberto Martinez’s side are scheduled to travel to Glasgow on Friday as the World Cup semi-finalists prepare to take on Scotland in a friendly.

Robertson will have a swift follow-up appearance leading his country out in their UEFA Nations League tie against Albania just three days later.

Since making his international debut in March 2014, the former Hull City defender has earned 22 caps for Scotland, scoring twice in the process.

He became an established member of the Reds’ back line following an £8 million move form the Championship with 34 appearances last term.

Robertson took on a pivotal role in Liverpool’s run to the Champions League final and has been an ever-present in their first four games of this season.
