Liverpool FC defender keen to repay Jurgen Klopp with Europa League win

Alberto Moreno wants to repay manager Jurgen Klopp’s faith in him by helping Liverpool win the Europa League.

Potentially little more than 180 minutes is all that separates the Reds from a place in next month’s final in Basel, with Klopp’s side heavily tipped to go through following a remarkable fightback against Borussia Dortmund.

Moreno had become a peripheral figure under the German’s predecessor Brendan Rodgers but is likely to start against Villarreal in tonight’s Europa semi-final first leg.

And the Spaniard, who won the Europa League with Sevilla in 2014, is keen to deliver the Liverpool manager’s first piece of silverware this season.

He said: “It was hard at first under Brendan. He didn’t seem to count on me much. I trained, I was 100 per cent, and didn’t play much.”

“But that is in the past now. I’m working with Jurgen Klopp, he’s put his trust in me and I’m in one of my best moments.

“Silverware is the best thing for any footballer. It was very special to win the Europa League in 2014 – my first year as a professional.”

“I want to try and win the Europa League with Liverpool.”
