Henderson: Liverpool won’t underestimate Roma

Jordan Henderson insists Liverpool will not underestimate Roma in the Champions League semi-final.

The Serie A giants travel to Anfield next Tuesday for the first leg of their last four showdown with Jurgen Klopp’s side in Europe’s elite club competition.

Roma progressed to the semi-final by overturning a 3-1 deficit against Barcelona to edge out one of the tournament’s favourites on away goals.

Mohamed Salah claimed that his former teammates had feared a match-up with the Reds heading into last Frday’s draw.

But Henderson, who missed his side’s quarter-final win over Manchester City, is adamant that there is no danger of complacency.

He said: “We certainly won’t underestimate them.

“If you beat Barcelona 3-0, you’re a top team. It’ll be a difficult game, both home and away.

“I’ve watched them a few times, they’ve got some very good players and a very good team so it will be a tough test as it always will be in the semi-final of the Champions League.

“They’re all good teams so it doesn’t really matter who you play, it’s going to be tough.

“But it’s a challenge for us to go into and we’re confident for the way we’ve been playing, especially in the last round.

“We’ve just got to go there and keep goind what we’ve been doing and hopefully we can get into the final.”

Since becoming captain in 2015, Henderson has guided Liverpool to the Europa League and League Cup finals but finished on the losing side in both.

But the midfielder is refusing to get carried away about his chances of potentially lifting the Champions League in next month’s Kiev showpiece.

“I think you dream about those things from when you’re a kid really,” he added.

“Of course I have [thought about winning it] as many players have but one step at a time. As I said earlier, Roma is a fantastic team

“It will be a tough test for us so we just have to wait and see.”
