Salah would trade Golden Boot for Champions League

Mohamed Salah would trade the Golden Boot for Champions League glory.

Salah is on course to be crowned this season’s Premier League top scorer after taking his tally to 30 goals in Liverpool’s 3-0 win over Bournemouth on Saturday.

The Egyptian leads closest challenger Harry Kane by five strikes despite the Tottenham striker set to have a game in hand to try and catch up.

He also remains in the running to become the PFA Player of the Year as his battle with Manchester City’s Kevin de Bruyne is set to go down to the wire.

But Salah could finish this season on another high, with the Reds facing his former club Roma in the Champions League semi-final in seven days’ time.

And the 25-year-old admits that the prospect of lifting Europe’s top honour would invariably trump any personal accolades.

“If you had a choice between the Champions League and (individual honours like the golden boot) then of course the Champions League,” said Salah.

“To win the Champions League is ‘whissssshhhh’ I can’t say ‘woahhh’.

“I have no doubt the Champions League. To win the Champions League is huge for everyone. I don’t care about the rest.”

He added: “Of course (the Golden Boot) is in my mind. I cannot lie.

“But you know, you can see [against Bournemouth] with the team everyone tries to pass the ball to me to help me.

“I am also sure that Tottenham’s players try to help Harry Kane, and also Manchester City’s try to help Sergio Aguero. It’s like that, but in the end we play as a team.”

Salah could also write his name into Anfield’s record books by becoming the first player to rival Ian Rush’s season-best of 47 goals in all competitions.

“It’s also very close, it’s just seven goals but let’s see,” he added.

“I don’t know how many games there is to go, but we have the Premier League and semi-finals of the Champions League to play.

“I will try my best to score again and help the team.”
