Alexander-Arnold defended over United horror show

Jurgen Klopp has leapt to Trent Alexander-Arnold’s defence after Liverpool’s defeat at Manchester United.

Alexander-Arnold came in for criticism in Saturday’s Old Trafford clash after playing a part in both of Marcus Rashford’s goals which ultimately downed the Reds.

He found himself turned easily by Rashford for United’s opener while the striker was able to notch a second courtesy of a deflection off the young full-back.

Liverpool legends Jamie Carragher and Graeme Souness both picked up on Alexander-Arnold’s mistakes during their analysis in TV coverage of the game.

And Klopp was quick to rally behind the teenager in the face of those attacks.

He said: “Who were the pundits?

“Rashford is coming at 100mph in that situation, Trent makes this move, he cuts back and then there needed to be another player.

“Could Trent have done better? Probably. But could he have solved the situation alone? There needs to be a second player.

“Pundits are former defenders and unfortunately they made similar things, in similar situations. It was a brilliant goal from Rashford.

“One of them (Carragher) was for sure, a full-back from time to time when he was young.”
