James Milner believes that Liverpool can win this season’s Champions League.
Tuesday’s last 16 tie with Porto sees Jurgen Klopp’s side virtually into the quarter finals with a five-goal advantage from the first leg.
The Reds could also edge ahead in the battle for the Premier League’s runner-up spot when they take on closest challengers Manchester United this weekend.
But while Milner insists that Liverpool are not looking too far ahead, he admits that steady progress towards tangible success is definitely being made.
He said: “I think we’re getting closer. We’re improving all the time since I’ve been here, as a team and moving forward.
“We’re an exciting team to watch. I think we’re learning to manage games better than we have done in the past and that maturity’s coming through.
“I think at this stage of the tournament, you need to have that belief that you can go on and win it but you do need to take it a game at a time.
“We’ve proved over the last few years that we can beat anyone on our day.
“But it’s about being consistent, learning from the mistakes you’ve made and not lookng too far ahead.
“The only thing we’re concentrating on is putting on a good performance and getting a win tomorrow night.”
