Sturridge completes loan move to West Brom

Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge has sealed a loan move to West Brom.

Sturridge finalised a temporary switch to the Hawthorns on Monday in his efforts to secure a place in England’s World Cup squad this summer.

A move overseas had appeared likely, with Inter Milan and Sevilla emerging as viable suitors for the unfancied Reds striker, 28, but West Brom won the battle.

Liverpool will receive a £1.5 million loan fee from Sturridge’s move to his native Midlands, with Alan Pardew hailing the signing as a major coup.

He said: “I hope our fans can understand that we are fighting to stay in the Premier League, not just on the pitch but in the market place as well.

“This is a big coup for us and I speak for my staff and my players and say ‘thank you’ to Daniel for agreeing to assist us in league and cup.

“He has fantastic talent and will strengthen our ambitions on both fronts.”
