Can insists Liverpool stand-off ‘not about money’

Emre Can insists the stand-off over his Liverpool future is ‘not about money’.

Can is yet to commit to a new long-term deal at Anfield and could negotiate a negotiate a pre-contract deal with another club in the January transfer window.

Juventus remain the forerunners for the Germany international while Jurgen Klopp hinted he may still pen an extension with the Reds in the summer.

The absence of a release clause in Can’s new contract is said to be a key stumbling block but the midfielder has refuted those suggestions.

“Why do you ask me this?”, he said to the Liverpool Echo.

“Really, I concentrate on this season and let my agent handle all the rest.”

He added: “It is not about money, that’s all I can say.

“Yes I could (sign a pre-contract), but tomorrow I could also sign for Liverpool. We’ll see.”
