Liverpool defender Joe Gomez has been handed his first senior England call-up.
Gomez joins Chelsea duo Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Tammy Abraham as first-time inclusions in Gareth Southgate’s squad for the friendlies with Germany and Brazil.
Since recovering from a series of injury problems, the versatile centre-back has made 11 first-team appearances this season under Jurgen Klopp.
Prior to his senior call-up, Gomez was named captain of England’s under-21 side and helped Aidy Boothroyd’s side to wins over Andorra and Scotland last month.
Joining him in the latest Three Lions squad is teammate Jordan Henderson but there is no place for either Daniel Sturridge or Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
Massive honour to be called up for the @England senior squad, dream come true for me! Thank you for the messages❤️

“He was our best defender when we won the Under-17 Euros,” said Southgate.
“A back three is perfect for him, he’s quick, athletic and can use the ball.”
