Sadio Mane has become Liverpool’s second nominee on the Ballon d’Or shortlist.
Mane joins Reds team mate Philippe Coutinho on the 30-man list for France Football’s European player of the year accolade.
The Senegal winger continues to enjoy a blistering start to his Anfield career since joining from Southampton in a £30 million deal last summer.
He scored 13 goals in 29 outings for Liverpool last season has found the target a further three in nine appearances to date this term.
An ankle injury in April limited Mane’s impact during his debut year with Liverpool as he was overtaken by Coutinho as the club’s leading scorer for the campaign.
Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo continue to head up the nominations for the Ballon d’Or while Coutinho’s compatriot Neymar also features prominently.
Michael Owen remains the only Liverpool player to win the award, back in 2001.
