Liverpool have confirmed that Daniel Sturridge will miss the Audi Cup final.
Sturridge was substituted after suffering a suspected thigh injury when scoring near the end of the Reds’ 3-0 win over Bayern Munich on Tuesday night.
The England striker’s withdrawal was down to precaution but he will not be available for selection in Wednesday’s showpiece against Atletico Madrid.
Instead of featuring in the game at the Allianz Arena, Sturridge will be treated at Liverpool’s training base in Rottach-Egern and continue to be monitored.
Anfield officials insist that there are currently no plans for the 27-year-old to undergo any scans in Germany nor be ruled out for any further matches.
Jurgen Klopp had admitted after the Bayern game that he was hopeful Sturridge would not be sidelined for long.
He said: “I can’t say [how bad it is]. He hurt his thigh.
“He has really prepared well. I just hope that it’s just a small injury and that he can play again soon.
“The goal was really great, you could see how fast he is. It’s a shame, I hope that it’s nothing serious.”
