Liverpool FC refuse to give up on Salah pursuit

Liverpool are still keen on Mohamed Salah despite talks with Roma at an impasse.

A £28 million bid for the former Chelsea winger was rejected by the Serie A giants as they continue to hold out for a valuation in the region of €40m (£35.2m).

Alternatives have been explored with discussions over Sporting Lisbon’s Gelson Martins opened while Bayern Munich forward Douglas Costa is also under consideration.

But Jurgen Klopp remains intent on landing Salah, who turned down the Reds in 2014 to move to Stamford Bridge, as one of his key summer transfer targets.

Roma have resisted Liverpool’s approach for the Egypt international after he scored 19 goals in the Italian top flight since making a permanent move in 2016.

With the club urgently needing to rebalance its figures due to the scrutiny of Financial Fair Play rules however, offloading Salah remains a viable option.

Salah’s agent Ramy Abbas Issa appeared to aim an indirect barb at Anfield officials last weekend when he hinted that they had been ‘waiting too long’.
